Play: Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe

Doctor Faustus is play written by Christopher  Marlowe  in 1592. It is the tragical history of Doctor Faustus. Major characters are Doctor Faustus, Lucifer, Mephistopheles, etc. Faustus is more conscious about getting the knowledge that’s why he learns black magic. He roams various parts of the countries. He sells his soul to Lucifer, master of black and magic. Lucifer sells Faustus’s soul to Mephistopheles for four and twenty years. But Doctor Faustus used his black magic to negative way and suffers from so many things. Lust and greed kind of sin enters into his mind. Here  Marlowe  describes seven deadly sins and Faustus also creates that type of image. At the end he realizes that his last day less and he begged for more life to Lucifer but Lucifer can’t do anything and at the end he dies. Here Christopher Marlowe tries to convey message that knowledge is important for any person but path of gaining knowledge plays a vital role. Here time also...

Poem: Fakeer of Jungheera by Henry Derozio

"Fakeer of Jungheera" is poem written by Henry Derozio in 1828.Poem divided into cantos. Major characters are Nuleeni, Fakeer, Other woman characters and Nuleeni’s husband. It is the love story of Nuleeni and Fakeer. Beginning of the poem suggests that there is something wrong going on and it is the death of Nuleeni’s husband.  At that time one rules that wife should have to sacrifice her life when her husband dies. Nuleeni also ready for this but at that time she remembered Fakeer. The entire woman talks about Nuleeni and they were happy to make her ‘Sati’. They sing a song of Sati and very enthusiastic to see this moment of Nuleeni’s death. But Nuleeni’s attention not towards this atmosphere but she only thinks about Fakeer. Then suddenly she left this place and goes with Fakeer. Suddenly atmosphere turned when they left this place. Frankenstein is novel written by Mary Shelley in 1818. It presents scientific revolution in this age. Major characters are Monster, Victor Frankenstein, Justine, and Lady Monster etc. Victor interested in create Monster that’s why he collects the different body parts of the people and then creates Monster. But when he saw the Monster first time at that time he feared for him. Then Monster not accepted by society because of this ugly looking. Then he goes to jungle and there he saw one family and started followed them. He came to know about the new words like, brother, sister etc. In this family one couple also living and observing this he attracts towards this things. Then Victor creates one Lady Monster and Monster started relation with her. Relationship of Victor and Monster is like father and son. Because of ugly look of Monster Victor can’t accept him but at the end he realizes that he is the creator of him.

Hamlet is written by William Shakespeare in 1603 . It is the tragedy and all about revenge motif, blood sheds, politics of relationships, etc. Main characters are King Hamlet, Prince Hamlet, Claudius, Ophelia, Laertes, Gertrude etc. In this play, ghost plays a vital role. Ghost of King Hamlet comes and told to Hamlet that what happens to him. Then Hamlet makes one plan to kill Claudius. When King Hamlet dies then Gertrude marries Claudius. Hamlet thinks that reason of his father’s death is his uncle. In this play one sentence is most important and it is speaks by Prince Hamlet, “To be or not to be that is the question.” It means Hamlet confused that whether he takes revenge or not. Paradise Lost is epic poem written by John Milton in 1667 . Main characters are Adam, Eve, Satan, God, etc. Garden of Eden created by God and in this garden one tree and it is the knowledge tree. God denied Adam and Eve to not eat this fruit of apple because it creates some changes in earth. But Satan planned to revenge and that’s why he changes his look and comes into the garden to make him as a serpent. Serpent tries to convince Eve and told her that this fruit is very effective and because if this I got more knowledge. First Eve denied because God gave her advice to not eat this knowledge of fruit. Tom Jones Henry Fielding’s Third novel Tom Jones was published in 1749. Its full title was The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling. Divided into eighteen books, Fielding defines his novel as a ‘heroical, historical prosaic poem’. The novel is part autobiographical and contains aspects of his own life-his love for his first wife and his knowledge of the South-Western part of England. The novel narrates the story of the title character from infancy through the marriage to the beautiful and virtuous Sophia Western, the pursuit of whom takes a larger part of the tale. The story begins with Mr. Allworthy, a rich and generous country gentleman, finding an abandoned baby in his bed. He names the child Tom Jones and brings him up in his house with Bilfil, son of his sister Bridget Bilfil and his heir. Tom falls in love with his neighbor, the wealthy and beautiful Sophia Western. Robinson Crusoe The protagonist of the novel- Robinson Crusoe is a young and self sufficient English man who, after several adventures at sea and on land, is cast away on a small, almost uninhabited island. One day, Crusoe is shocked to discover a man’s footprint on the beach, which belongs to one of the Cannibals said to be living in the region. One of the victims of these Cannibals, waiting to be slaughtered, breaks free and runs toward Crusoe’s dwelling. Crusoe then protects him and names him Friday. Thereafter, Friday becomes Crusoe’s humble and devoted slave. In the end, they are finally rescued and taken back to England.
