Play: Hamlet
Hamlet is written by William Shakespeare in
1603. It is the tragedy and all about revenge
motif, blood sheds, politics of relationships, etc. Main characters are King
Hamlet, Prince Hamlet, Claudius, Ophelia, Laertes, Gertrude etc. In this play,
ghost plays a vital role. Ghost of King Hamlet comes and told to Hamlet that
what happens to him. Then Hamlet makes one plan to kill Claudius. When King
Hamlet dies then Gertrude marries Claudius. Hamlet thinks that reason of his
father’s death is his uncle. In this play one sentence is most important and it
is speaks by Prince Hamlet,
“To be or not to be that is the question.”
It means Hamlet confused that whether he
takes revenge or not. Women characters played also a vital role. Ophelia is the
daughter of Polonius and beloved off Hamlet. But she is the mere puppet by
circumstances and very attracted towards her father and brother Laertes. Hamlet
suffers from some psychological problem and suddenly he becomes violent towards
Ophelia and told her that “go to
nunnery” and also told that he reveals their truth of relationship through
letters. Then because of this Ophelia became mad and drowned her. Here Oedipus
complex also we can easily find because Hamlet is more attracted towards his
mother. But when he knows about his father’s death for this moment he hates his
mother. And speaks to her that,
“Frailty thy name is woman.”
Through this sentence he
proves that woman is always that type of behavior. At the end of the play
Hamlet kills his uncle Claudius. Hamlet also dies and only one character
Horatio one of the best friend of his live because Hamlet told him that he is
the only one who told the whole story to the society.
