Poem: She Walks in Beauty
‘She Walks
in Beauty’ is a poem written by Lord Byron. Here poet compares woman’s beauty
with night. Poet notices her eyes, her face “all that’s best of dark and
bright” are joined. Her beauty contrasted with “gaudy” daylight. In the second
stanza, he reflects on the balance in the woman’s beauty: “One shade the more,
one ray the less”. Then he turns about inner life and external beauty- as an
expression of thoughts that dwell in a place, perhaps her mind, beautiful face
and beautiful head, both pure and dear. In the final stanza, he turns into her
face that in her face silent expression of peace and calm in her cheek, brow
and smiles.
Here poet
shows that though the woman is very beautiful but she is not egoistic. He
compares her face with daylight and other natural elements. She is very calm
and her silent expression shows that her thoughts are very powerful. Her
thoughts are pure like her natural beauty. So, here poet praises her beauty with
her thoughts.
